Meeting at Barrow Police Station!
The following story was last updated Thursday 24th March 2011.
New Youth Councillors announced!
At a prestigious event in Barrow Town Hall on Thursday 24 March, the 20 successful candidates in the recent Furness Youth Council elections were announced. Young people from across Furness have been campaigning hard over the past few weeks to get the support of youth voters in the first ever Youth Council elections in Cumbria, and during last night's event, twenty of them found out that their hard work had paid off. The new Furness Youth Council will be representing the views and interests of the entire 11-18 population of Furness, and working hard to bring about changes that will improve the lives of children and young people in our area.
The event was opened by a number of young people who have been working hard, on a voluntary basis, to establish a Youth Council for Furness. Their passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to youth voice was clear as they addressed an audience of over 100 guests. They described the successes and challenges they have experienced, and wished the newly elected Youth Councillors well in their mission to help to make real positive changes in Furness for all young people.
Speaking at the event were Councillors Tina Macur (Chair of the Children and Young People's Working Group of Barrow Local Committee), Deputy Mayor of Barrow Ray Guselli, and Councillor Anne Burns (Cabinet Member with responsibility for Children's Social Care). Councillor James Airey announced the successful candidates on behalf of Eddie Martin, Leader of Cumbria County Council.

Thanks for visiting Furness Youth Council!
We're the Furness Youth Council Planning Group. We're working together to set up elections for a Furness-wide Youth Council, because we think it's important for young people to have a say in the future of their area.
